Reggae (/ˈrɛɡeɪ/) is a music genre that originated in Jamaica in the late 1960s. The term also denotes the modern popular music of Jamaica and its diaspora. Who was the first to start reggae?
Reggae music began in Jamaica, but it quickly spread around the world. Origin in the '60s: Reggae takes its name from the 1968 single "Do the Reggay" by Toots and the Maytals. reggae music was considered a rag-tag, hodge-podge of other musical styles, namely Jamaican Mento and contemporary Jamaican Ska music, along with American jazz and rhythm & blues, something like what was coming out of New Orleans at the time.
